The Cyber Trust partnership
About the partnership
We're delighted to be partnering with The Cyber Trust to promote internet safety to our young members across the county.
In our modern world, we recognise that our young members are spending more and more time connected to the internet, whether that be on personal mobile devices, home computers, etc. We are also aware that there are a growing number of risks associated with this, including:
We have formed this partnership to share the work of The Cyber Trust with our young members across the county and to provide a range of activities for them to help raise awareness of these issues and to help ensure our young people are 'security savvy' when it comes to going online.
We would particularly like to thank Dr Bob Nowill and Dame Janet Trotter from The Cyber Trust for their work with us on this topic.

'SpeakOut! Using the internet safely' challenge badge
Girlguiding members love a badge, so to encourage participation in our activities and to spread the awareness as far as possible, even beyond our county borders, we have a fantastic badge available for units to purchase to show that their members are internet safe.
We have created a special challenge pack which has specific activities for Brownies, Guides and Rangers. Complete all the activities to earn your badge. We'd love to see what you get up to. Share your photos on social media tagging us in. |

More about the Cyber Trust
The Cyber Trust was born in Gloucestershire, although its work reaches far beyond the boundaries of the county border. The Cyber Trust is a charity and is therefore run by a board of volunteer trustees as well as other volunteers and fundraisers. Formed in 2017, the charity recognised the increasing opportunities and dangers of the digital revolution on young people. Their vision was to help children and vulnerable people access the digital world safely and securely and at the same time enjoy the benefits of the technology.
The charity started working with the Gloucestershire Police and Crime Commissioner, the Chief Constable and local schools and colleges to develop and deliver face-to-face interactive sessions with young people which proved a success. They saw the demand for their sessions growing and began work on a new idea, the SpeakOut! app, which launched in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. The app has also been well received and they have 2 stories for young people to work through to help them learn how to stay safe on the internet, one around cyber bullying and the other about the dangers of sharing personal information with other online.
The charity continue to develop their offer and are hoping to add new stories to the app in the future. They're interested in young people coming forward to support with this. Perhaps your unit could write the new SpeakOut! story.
