    Going away with scheme notification to county

    This form should be completed by the local commissioner

    The Going away with (GAW) scheme can be started via the learning platform. However the system does not inform county GAW coordinators when someone starts. Please complete the form below and details will be sent to the county GAW coordinator. The GAW coordinator uses the information to help ensure testers are available when the leader is ready to be assessed. The GAW coordinator will also assign a mentor.

    Before completing this form please ensure that you have the leader's membership number from GO and that they are a qualified leader with the LQ or LDP recorded on GO. If you have any problem getting the membership number or with this form please contact us.

    The new GAW, launched in October 2025, and consists of the following elements:

    • Planning and admin
    • Health and safety
    • Programme
    • Teamwork
    • Venue management

    Additional courses:
    • Catering (You'll need to run a residential which your team is catering, or be responsible for the catering at a residential event to complete this course)
    • Camping
    • Outdoor cooking (launching 2026)
    • Travelling abroad (launching 2027/8)

    Top-up courses
    There are also top-up elearning courses on the learning platform for those with the old GAW. This form is not required for a leader to work on these.
