Lions at Large

Girlguiding Gloucestershire have signed up to fundraise for our very own 'little lion' which will be on display during the Lions at Large trail in 2025.

What is Lions at Large?

In the summer of 2025, Lions at Large – The Pride of Gloucestershire Trail will be ‘roaring’ onto the streets of Cheltenham and Gloucester!

Over 30 large Lion sculptures will be designed and painted by local artists; celebrating Gloucestershire’s rich history, culture and diversity. They will be joined by the Cub Club – a pride of little Lions lovingly created by local schools and community groups.

It will be a fun and free event for people to take part in.

For more information about the 'mane' event see: Lions at Large | Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospitals Charity

What are Girlguiding Gloucestershire doing?

We have signed up to take part and fundraise for two little lion cubs to be featured in the trail. We need to raise a minimum of £1,400 for this which will all go to the hospital charity, who are raising money for a new cancer treatment centre in Cheltenham. Once we have hit our minimum target, any money raised over and above this will be split between the hospital charity (60%) and Deer Park development fund (40%). When the trail is over, our little lion will be given 'pride' of place at Deer Park for us to keep forever.

How can my unit get involved?

Visit the trail
Keep an eye on the Lions at Large official website for the latest details of where and when you can find the lions. You could plan your own trip as a group to find as many as you can, or share the information with the parents/carers and girls in your unit so they can do the trail as a family.
Complete the challenge
To help us fundraise, we've created our very own Lions at Large challenge badge.

To earn the badge, we are encouraging groups to take part in at least two of the activities in the pack, but you can complete more if you wish.

Additional fundraising is optional but welcomed, and you can find ideas and information about this in section 4 of this pack.

This challenge is open to all ages, and groups outside of Girlguiding Gloucestershire are very welcome to take part as well. We hope you have fun learning about lions and discovering the trail around Cheltenham and Gloucester!
