Lions at Large
Girlguiding Gloucestershire have signed up to fundraise for own very own 'little lion' which will be on display during the Lions at Large trail in 2025.
What is Lions at Large?
In the summer of 2025, Lions at Large – The Pride of Gloucestershire Trail will be ‘roaring’ onto the streets of Cheltenham and Gloucester!
Over 30 large Lion sculptures will be designed and painted by local artists; celebrating Gloucestershire’s rich history, culture and diversity. They will be joined by the Cub Club – a pride of little Lions lovingly created by local schools and community groups. It will be a fun and free event for people to take part in. For more information about the 'mane' event see: Lions at Large | Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospitals Charity |
What are Girlguiding Gloucestershire doing?
We have signed up to take part and fundraise for own little lion cub to be featured in the trail. We need to raise a minimum of £750 for this which will all go to the hospital charity, who are raising money for a new cancer treatment centre in Cheltenham. Once we have hit our minimum target, any money raised over and above this will be split between the hospital charity (60%) and Deer Park development fund (40%). When the trail is over, our little lion will be given 'pride' of place at Deer Park for us to keep forever.
What can my unit do to help?
Competition - Creating our lion
The first thing we need to sort is the design of our little lion! We want our little lion to be designed by some of our young members so we are running a competition and asking units to use the template to create some lion designs. The only requirement is that the design needs to represent Girlguiding Gloucestershire in some way. If units want to take part in this, please send the top 3 designs from your group to [email protected] before 18 January 2025. Please ensure you include the unit name and leader's name when you email the designs to us.
Units who have a design selected will be invited to help us paint the lion in the spring. |
Planning for the summer 2025
Otherwise, keep a space in your summer term planning for some Lions at Large activities or consider planning a day trip over the summer in 2025 to see the lions.
