In this zone, we encourage you to explore somewhere different from the comfort of your own home. Which one of these will you choose to explore on your camp at home? Pick one area and do at least one activity from this to complete the Explore Zone.
Out of this World!
Let’s go to space!
- Design your own astronaut outfit
- Make a rocket
- Create your own alien from recycling and junk materials
- Learn about the planets - can you recreate the solar system using items at home?
It's Showtime!
Explore the world of theatre and arts
- Make a puppet - you could use a sock, make a finger puppet or use straws and card to make a moving puppet.
- Perform a camp skit, a small, humorous performance.
- Try out some circus skills - can you juggle? How about having a go at some magic tricks?
- Create your own 5 minute camp talent show.
Let's Go International
International trips are a big part of Girlguiding experiences. Plan a trip around the world. Pick 7 destinations you would like to visit and find a picture or an interesting fact about each of them. Can you find out about Girlguiding or Girl Scouts in those countries? Create a postcard to send from each of the places you visit.
Animal Magic
Explore the world of animals. You could:
- Go on a virtual safari with Longleat Safari Park. What animals can you spot?
- Act out the animals you would like to see on a trip to the zoo. Can your family guess what they are?
- Make an animal costume or mask.
- Create a zoo and make animals out of newspaper or any other materials you may have at home.
Useful Resources
Put your dancing shoes on:
This is a simple way to turn a pair of regular shoes into a pair of tap shoes. You'll just need to provide a suitable flooring for them to make a noise and then you can put on a performance. This is a Unit Meeting Activity for Rainbows. If you complete this activity, share it with your Leader and they can update your theme award record. |
Finger puppets:
Red Ted Arts have some fantastic ideas for all sorts of crafty projects. We particularly like this finger puppet activity. |
|
Puppet show:
Become a puppeteer by creating your own puppets with moving parts. Older girls could make this more complex by using more moving parts. This is a level 1 Skills Builder activity for Rainbows. If you complete this activity, share it with your Leader and they can update your theme award record. |
Campfire skits:
A campfire skit is a short, humorous drama piece usually performed by a small number of Guides, often in Patrols, around the campfire as part of the evening's entertainment. Lord Robert Baden Powell said it well when he said "Singing and acting are excellent for training in self-expression. Also, they make for good team-work, everybody learning his part and doing it well, not for applause for himself but for the success of the whole show." Perhaps you could get the whole family involved and film your skit to share with the Bash Community on the Facebook Group or Twitter. Use the hashtag #VBHB2020. |

Magic with Mark:
Girlguiding shared this video during their Adventures at Home Festival last month and we liked it so much we wanted to include it for the Bash as well. During the festival, two Guides from Coaley amazed their Leader by performing this trick and we know you can too! This is a level 1 Skills Builder activity for Rainbows. If you complete this activity, share it with your Leader and they can update your theme award record. |

Discover the World Centres:
Did you know that Girlguiding have four fixed and one moving World Centres:
This activity card is aimed at Rainbows, however older girls can take this exploration further to find out more about the Centres and the countries they are found in. This is a Unit Meeting Activity for Rainbows. If you complete this activity, share it with your Leader and they can update your theme award record. |
